Incident Safety Officer – Topeka, KS

Incident Safety Officer Prep School examines the Safety Officer’s role at emergency situations. Persons attending this course should have a working knowledge of IMS, building construction principles and applicable NFPA guidelines. The students will be able to identify and analyze safety concerns related to all hazards. Through a review of firefighter fatality and injury data and basic risk management principles, the student will increase their skills as a potential Incident Safety Officer.
A PA State Fire Instructor, Deputy Chief Richards has over 40 years of experience in both career and volunteer fire services. He has served as Fire Chief in three departments over his career. He worked 27 years in various capacities with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, having served as a Fire Marshal, Fire and Safety Specialist and Fire Instructor. He serves on the NFPA Technical Committee “Recommended Practice in Emergency Service Organization Risk Management” and the 1201 Technical Committee “Standard for Providing Emergency Services to the Public”. He graduated from the State University of NY with a B.S. in Fire Service Administration. He is the founder of and the CEO of Task Force 1, Inc.
Chris is a veteran of the fire service since 2002. Chris currently is a Captain in the Houston Fire Department, currently assigned to Engine 55 in District 46. Majority of his career has been spent in District 46, both as a firefighter and Engineer/Operator on both Engine and Ladder companies.
