We all struggle with challenges. Light staffed fireground operations are no different. he good news is that there are strategies that can work to improve efficiency without compromising safety. This program will delve into three fireground functions: Engine, Truck, and Command functions.
By looking at the essential tasks that need to be identified, assigned and completed, light staffing does not to have to equate with defeat.
From command officers to the company officer down to the rookie firefighter all will benefit from this intense classroom-based program.
Chief Richards has over 40 years of experience in both career and volunteer fire services serving as Fire Chief in three departments. Chief Richards worked 27 years in various capacities with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, having served as a Fire Chief, Fire Marshal, Fire and Safety Specialist and Fire Instructor. He retired after his final assignment where he was responsible for coordinating and implementing ICS and NIMS to over 14,000 emergency responders.
Chief Richards serves on the NFPA Technical Committee 1250 “Recommended Practice in Emergency Service Organization Risk Management” and the 1201 Technical Committee “Standard for Providing Emergency Services to the Public”. He graduated from the State University of NY with a B.S. in Fire Service Administration. He is the founder of and the President of Task Force, 1, Inc.
Jonathan Hart is the Director of Fire Operations in the Washington County (MD) Division of Emergency Services. He is a part-time instructor with the University of Maryland – Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute (MFRI) where he formerly served as the Manager of the Special Programs, the section that generates revenue for the institute by providing contractual training to private industry and business, government (state, local, Federal/DoD), and entities abroad.
Prior to working at MFRI, Jonathan retired from the Baltimore County Fire Department as a Division Chief after 25 years of service. He has been an active volunteer in Prince Georges County (MD) serving 30 years at the Chillum-Adelphi VFD, where he served as Fire Chief from 2000 – 2004; he is currently an active member at the Morningside VFD. Since 2017, Jonathan has been an adjunct instructor at the National Fire Academy.
